Happy Halloween!!
Thank you to everyone that brought items for our party and for our guests that attended and helped out. We even had a balloon man that made balloon designs to take home. Guests were great sports and became our mummies. Then with eyes closed, kids and some adults!, drew a scene as I read it aloud - they were scary sights when eyes were opened!
We had a fun afternoon!
Pam Holz came today and we had fun learning about the 3 types of rocks.
Kids learned that different minerals are in lava and volcanoes erupt differently. We saw this by 'erupting' different types of condiment packets.
We then learned how layers of sediment create sedimentary rocks. We used bread as sediment to create layers, which then formed a 'rock'.
We then learned how 2 rocks can change into a new rock - a metamorphic rock. We used heat and pressure to change 2 Starburst into 1 new one.
And finally.... we identified a variety of rocks as igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
Bike a Thon Success! I tried to get as many in a photo as I could but sorry if I missed some!
More stream tables.. this time we tested standard water flow, water on a slope, and a flood condition. Ask kids what they observed or have them show you in their science notebooks.
Kids using a model of a stream table to observe erosion and deposition. We are trying to find out how soil gets from one place to another and how scientists use models.
Kids are observing and drawing soil samples and trying to determine if they are from the desert, mountain, river delta, or forest based on the amount of rock and humus in each sample.
